Treasurer Alex Bergman organized and hosted a Lincoln for Lincoln fundraiser, where Brothers mailed a penny to Psi alumni in hopes that they would mail back $5, hence the Lincoln for Lincoln. The chapter profited around $200, making a good start in fundraising for the new year. Next, Brothers helped out at the Long Beach AIDS Walk where they worked a water station and helped pass out water bottles to the runners and walkers participating in the walk.

On July 21, we sent 19 Psi actives and alumni to the Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma National Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. Despite a bumpy trip to the 100+ degree Arizona Biltmore, Psi made it to the convention in one piece, ready to start a week full of caucusing, workshops, mascot stealing, pool hopping, and chapter bonding. We were also joined by seven members of our little brother colony from Fullerton College. After much previous preparation, Psi gave a presentation for the Founder’s Trophy Award, and although we didn’t win the award, we are still proud to have been given the opportunity to be nominated for a national award and to showcase our unique chapter for the rest of the nation to see.

After Convention ended, it was time to get into marching band mode as Fall quarter approached. For more summer service, Brothers went to assist the marching bands at Chaminade and Notre Dame High Schools. They helped the band directors teach the students marching techniques as well as helped run sectionals and give private lessons to the students.

As the last service projects for the summer, Brothers helped design and attach wooden steps for “The Tower”, which is what our Band Director’s extremely tall podium. We also started cleaning the school’s marching tubas in preparation for the season ahead.

The Psi chapter is ready to kick off a great marching season at UCLA, where we will be performing a Western show, a Jazz show, and a Classical show. Throughout the season, Psi will be working hard to be strong leaders within the band and will continue to assist our director and staff in order to make Fall 2009 smooth and enjoyable for all band members.
